When times are good and your wallet is fat, it’s easy to forget about the frugal things you do on a day to day basis that made that wallet fatter and the times better.
I’ve decided to remind myself of things that I do, or need to re-focus on doing since I seem to have been on a wave lately with extreme frugalness one month and extreme spending the next. Yes. It’s true.
I figure that if I try to practice these tips consistently and then a few things I need to get back on track, the wallet will certainly get fatter again, right?
Half the battle is recognizing a weak spot!
So here you go, Frugal Tip #3
Do you own Manicure and Pedicure.
Ok, maybe you don’t pay for these services, but IF you do, you know how much it costs … I pay anywhere from $40 to $60 plus tip. Yikes. A little extravagant, wouldn’t you say? I’ll admit, I don’t have the pedicure thing down pat yet but just continue to use my PedEgg and a little foot razor on the callus as they appear. It works for me and it’s been, oh, 3 1/2 months since I’ve had a pedicure. Of course, after the party between the big toe and fry pan lid, I’m not letting a salon touch that toe for quite a while so it doesn’t catch anything from anyone 😉
So … I took that minimum $40.00, grabbed the $3.50 off $10 purchase coupon and headed over to Ulta and picked up some stuff to do it myself.
1. Good nail file $3 (tops)
2. Coconut oil or Olive oil for your cuticles. Do yourself a favor and make a small batch of hand scrub
right this second and use. I’ll wait …
3. Skip Chip $10 – I encourage you to do this as nothing is worse than chipped nail polish!
4. Good base coat (this does matter) $9 (I buy ORLY)
5. Nail color that you will like for a few months to come $8 (again, this does matter, unless you like natural, then skip)
6. Top Coat … the one I but (ORLY) is a top and bottom coat so it’s the same $0
7. Quick Dry $7 (tops) … not totally necessary as a squirt of Pam
on each nail does the same job and when this stuff is out I won’t buy more
I will make the assumption that you already have nail polish remover 🙂
Seriously, I do this on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday EVENING with a glass of wine sitting at the kitchen counter while Hubby does his cooking in the kitchen … it’s just part of our life and he knows not to ask me to pitch in for anything for the next 30 minutes or so.
You don’t expect me to tell you HOW to give yourself a manicure, do you?? Nah … you can go to Youtube for that! 😉 Here are a few good links to check out …

Please, keep in mind, I do NOT endorse cutting your own cuticles … so if you do, do so at your own risk 😉 Nothings worse than a hangnail or a ripped cuticle.
So, tell me, are YOU a girly-girl that does her own nails or do you go get them done somewhere? Trust me, getting a manicure is a 30 minute exercise in pampering and I LOVE to get them … I just need to be keeping the Benjamins a little closer to home for now 😉
